The service engineer made some adjustments yesterday and it will hopefully resolve the spiking. I will be running several tests today to make sure I cannot reproduce the spiking, and I will let you know what I see. At this point I would say it is safe to start scheduling scans. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns regarding this. This is exactly the situation that we want for our facility, indicating full use of all available scan time. However, it also means that some of you are encountering difficulty finding appropriate blocks of time to book your scans. In an attempt to maximum the available time for all users, the 3T policy committee is requesting that users please avoid scheduling intentional gaps between scans. Even small gaps accumulate across the day, resulting in significant unused and unavailable scanner time. As a reminder, users are expected to schedule and pay for set-up and clean-up time on the scanner. Another researcher should be able to walk in and use any unscheduled time on the scanner - even a short gap of 15-30 minutes. If you are occupying the room and preventing others from using it, this should be reflected on the 3T calendar. Obviously, some gaps are unavoidable due to participant or researcher schedule constraints. Please review your own protocols and scheduling practices to see if there are any ways that you can help to maximize the available scan time for fellow users. It is our hope that this will make it easier for everyone to find sufficient blocks of time for their scans. In addition, if you have not already done so, please take time to introduce yourself to our new front desk staff person, Manda, and to let her know about study participants that may be appearing in the lobby. Please consider whether it is appropriate for the front desk staff to monitor your participants and/or their family members in the lobby. Some patient populations or age groups may be beyond the training or expectations of the front desk staff. Neither participants nor their families/friends should be left unattended in the lobby (e.g., after hours or on weekends), as this constitutes unescorted CMRR access (which requires formal safety training). Happy scanning!
