Mathematical Morphology Operators

 

For MathMorph operations[8, 9], the result image is dependent on the Mode operand. When in the ``Binary'' mode, the value of the pixels in the result image is dependent on the operation result at the pixels location. They are set to 1.0 where the operation result is TRUE and are set to 0.0 where the operation result is FALSE. When in the ``Greyscale'' mode, the pixel value in the result image is simply the result of the operation. There are two structuring elements available as specified by the SE operand. The Box SE must have its dimensions specified by the Half Width and Half Height operands. The Disc SE must have its dimensions specified by the Radius operand. As these structuring elements are only 2D, they can be applied on any orthogonal plane as specified by the Axis operand. In order to avoid edge effects, it may be useful to prepare the image first with a Frame operation (See Section 15.1.7).
