A Siemens Inveon preclinical microPET/CT now augments the center's extensive MR capabilities. microPET/CT is a molecular level functional imaging modality that provides valuable insight into biochemical, physiological, pathological and/or pharmacological processes in vivo. The microPET/CT can be used in a number of ways. This information can be obtained via a non-invasive, in vivo imaging process that allows both serial and longitudinal studies to be performed and in a continuous and comparative way. Other areas can be assessed such as novel drug delivery, effects of intervention, and progression and outcome of a particular therapy. Examples of biomedical applications specific to the microPET/CT using FDG:
- Myocardial viability.
- Tumor glucose metabolism.
- Gastrointestinal graft-versus-host disease (GVHD).
- Neurotransmitter function in vivo over time, e.g. Huntington's, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's disease.
- Time-activity profiles reflecting tracer delivery, binding and washout, i.e., pharmokinetics.
- Development of new radiopharmaceuticals for use in diagnostic imaging and new molecular imaging assays.
- Acquisition of sequential PET and CT data without repositioning.
